Company History

John Apple started the company in Goldens Bridge, New York in 1976. The company has been a New Holland dealer from the beginning and carries a full line of New Holland construction and industrial equipment. In the early years, the company concentrated on the Ford tractor backhoe loader and industrial tractor line. In the mid 1980s, the company expanded to include more construction equipment and later added ground maintenance equipment. Today, customers include excavating contractors, homebuilders, municipalities, golf courses, cemeteries, and homeowners in seven counties in southern New York and Western Connecticut.

John Apple has been in the construction equipment business since graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He has been active in professional associations, serving three years as president of the Metropolitan Equipment Distributors of New York, and chairing the North American Dealer Council for Ford Tractor in 1985. Apple and Westchester Tractor have also received numerous sales and service awards.

Westchester Tractor, now owned by John’s son, John Matthew Apple III (Matt) and Andrew Prusinowski is considered a leader in the industry. Matt Apple, a Veteran Marine Corps Sergeant and a graduate in Business Management from Western Connecticut State University has been working at Westchester Tractor since he was a young boy. Matt learned the business from his father and from the years of work in Westchester Tractor’s parts department. Andrew Prusinowski, a graduate from the Pennsylvania State University was hired by John Apple directly out of school to fill a sales position. Andrew has since worked his way up from sales to administration and now is a co-owner that has helped shape the company to what is today. They continue to run the company as a large family atmosphere and continue to further expand Westchester Tractor as a leader in the industry.

After being in Goldens Bridge for over 30 years, Westchester Tractor in the beginning of 2007 picked up and moved to Southeast, New York. Today, Westchester Tractor is a certified service-disabled veteran owned small business and services customers that include excavating contractors, landscapers, homebuilders, municipalities, golf courses, cemeteries, and homeowners in seven counties in southern New York and three counties in Connecticut.
